SMFA Art Sale 2025

About

The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA), connected with Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) and Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences, holds the largest contemporary art sale in New England. Every year, various works from students, faculty, alumni, and friends of the SMFA are sold to support scholarships and financial aid for its students.

Goals/Objectives

Create a new, bold and eye-catching graphic suite for the SMFA Art Sale, containing an open-ended “Call for Art” postcard, invites, online and print advertising, and signage. Maintain the vibrant branding of the SMFA.

Call for Art

Using the type for the phrase, “Art Sale,” I broke down the letterforms into their simplest shapes. I drew the visual aesthetic from artists whose work I enjoy, like Frank Stella. Each form has it’s own color and can overlap in a variety of manners, as if laying fabrics on top of one another.

This series incudes a postcard, email banner, and Instagram posts.

Advertisements

After the initial postcards were produced, I created a series of advertisements across specifically Boston and New England based publications using the phrase “Buy Art. Do Good.”

Signage

The final pieces of the Art Sale came together at the actual event, with various pieces of signage displayed around the school’s interior and exterior indicating where the sale was happening and inviting people to enter the SMFA.
